This is a font design that employs various textures and materials, exploring the technique of creating "text as image". For instance, it involves distorting text, adding visual effects and textures.
TYPESVISIBLELANGUAGE. Image: The fonts are shot by reflecting with laser paper, as well as by using water, sponges, 3D fonts and so on for shooting and production.
In the seminar of week 9, I learned and explored the simulation techniques of adding visual effects and textures to fonts. This will enable me to combine these techniques with the explorations in the workshop and apply some of them to further enhance the experimental nature of your publication project.
I used laser paper, water, sponges, 3D fonts, and various different pigments and paper materials for design and photography. At first, I experimented with different fonts from "TYPES VISIBLE LANGUAGE". I used a magnifying glass, cut out words to make the fonts hollow, and placed different materials of paper behind the hollow paper. Later, I also discovered that by using the reflective and refractive properties of laser paper, the fonts could be reflected on the laser paper and change. This was a very interesting process.
Then I used pigments and sponges to create different colors and textures on the paper. Since I also bought a "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" 3D font, but it didn't have all the letters, I selected another part and placed it on the corresponding letters to make each letter look different. Another one was using water and a bucket. I placed the cut-out black fonts on the water surface to make it look more designed.
Throughout the entire class of week 9, I experienced the design changes on fonts. Not only could I see the shape of each font, but also give them different characteristics.
